Yes. Independent driving on the salt flat is highly dangerous. You can get lost easily without visual markers, and the crust is thin in places. You must book a guided 4x4 Jeep tour.
Guided tours cost between $60 and $120 for a single day. Multi-day trips cost $150 to $500. You also need around 150 BOB in cash for the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve entry.

I did not expect to see mirrot reflections outside the wet season; but we were dropped off at a place with magnificent sunset over water. followed by splendid star gazing experience. The bonus is the driver, who is such a good photrographer. We had many good pictures and videos to bring home. This is the tour you should not miss.
Uyuni is such a magical place. This trip provided a chance to see both the sunset and the night sky, with the driver helping take some excellent photos. The group is kept small at just 6 people which allows for alotof flexibility. Highly recommended!
